As a family business that’s been established for more than a century, our people are at the heart of everything we do. That’s why we’ve worked hard to develop a culture where our staff feel valued and most importantly, are happy and motivated in their roles.
Gestures such as birthday vouchers for our people as well as their families help to show our appreciation and we work with every employee to put a tailored development plan in place. This includes investing in whatever training they want or need to enhance their skills ensuring they can reach their full potential. As site manager Mark Easton explains:
“I’ve been a site manager for more than 15 years and have worked for LST for around eight months. Working here has been like a breath of fresh air and the training is second to none. I can ask for further training as and when required and I’m given the time and flexibility to attend courses."
He continues: “The team shows its appreciation in a number of ways. Leaders provide regular positive feedback, and this is the first time I’ve had the pleasure of working for a company that gives every employee and their close families a birthday gift.”
And this is a view echoed by Georgina Morton, our estimating assistant who joined LST straight from school.
“I’ve only been at LST Projects for just over a year, but I already feel really valued and appreciate the support I get,” she says. “I was given the opportunity to train and gain further skills through a Postgraduate course in Business Administration, which was tailored to my job role. I was supported throughout this course by managers and colleagues who took the time to encourage and motivate me, assuring me that I could add value by completing the course and developing my skills.”
We also recognise that everyone has different needs and motivations, which means our support doesn’t always centre on the workplace. For example, for Patrick Mballa, our estimating director, his charity work is his passion, so we have helped him continue this while working for LST.
“I’m the leader of Cameroon Catalyst, a charity which delivers vital facilities for people in villages in Cameroon,” explains Patrick. “Every year I visit the country with a team of volunteers, including University students, to help build facilities for local communities which so far has included a hospital, a school, and a solar power hub.
“LST have backed me since I first joined the company in 2007, giving me time off work to spend time in Cameroon and providing financial support.”
Treating every employee as an individual is key to our approach but whatever we do for our employees, we strive to ensure that everyone feels like a part of the LST family. Good employees, like a soul mate, can be hard to find, so we do our utmost to keep them. Showing our people that we care, appreciate and value them, even through small gestures, can make a huge difference which benefits LST as a company and ultimately our clients.
