History of LST Projects

LST’s long and successful history dates back to 1895 when Louis Seymour Tuffin started trading as a builder and decorator. Since then, the business has continued to grow and been led by five generations of the same family.

After setting up, it wasn't long before Louis was joined by his sons, and then their sons followed.

The business became well respected in Southampton and surroundings areas and continued trading as Louis S Tuffin until the mid 1970s when the name abbreviated to LST.

Records show the team played a part in repairing property damaged by enemy bombing in World War II. As time went on, the business became involved in larger projects, forging strong working relationships with private clients and local authorities.

In the 1960s, Southampton City Council appointed LST to convert the former Wool House to the Maritime Museum which received a Commendation award from the Civic Trust.‍ The medieval building was originally constructed to assist with Southampton's wool trade and in 1966 was refurbished internally to house the museum.

By the 1970s, LST largely focused on residential work, refurbishing older properties and constructing extensions. In 1978, Louis’s great grandson, Robert, joined the team and is now our Commercial Director.

LST’s reputation for quality has been key to its success as has its focus on collaboration. Strong partnerships with clients and project team members, including architects, has led to repeat business across sectors.

In 2000, Shaun Tuffin, joined the business and initially trained as a carpenter. He has since developed experience across all areas of the business and is now our Managing Director.
