In the specialist neuro ICU, LST has replaced 13 pendants, enabling cables and wires to be safely organised and more effective access to medical equipment and gases. The team was also responsible for installing the associated steelwork for the pendants, and refurbishing the entire ward, including new ceilings, floors and decoration.
The second part of the project involved improvements to the interior of the paediatric ICU. LST’s refurbishment has created five new side rooms with glass screens and sliding doors. A new pendant has been fitted and a further two have been moved as part of the upgrade. New floors and ceilings have also been installed along with a new lighting scheme and medical cabinets in three separate storage areas.
Chris Taylor, Contracts Manager for LST, said: “Both ICUs are located in busy areas of the hospital, so each project had to be very carefully managed.
“The refurbishment of the paediatric ICO was particularly challenging as busy operating theatres are situated directly above the space. We worked very closely with the theatre staff and senior matron to co-ordinate any noisy works using WhatsApp messaging. This ensured any drilling was immediately stopped if there was a delicate operation taking place.”
Both projects were completed within 22 weeks.
