The upgrades were designed by Architects Kendall Kingscott and M&E Engineers Hulley and Kirkwood. The project saw LST create a new consulting room and carry out refurbishments to interview, staff and locker areas as well as support spaces. The scope of works also included installing new mechanical and electrical (M&E) services and full fit-outs.
Planning was imperative throughout the project as LST was working in a live hospital environment and with the added pressure of Covid restrictions. Material movements could only be carried out at certain times of the day, so it was essential that strong lines of communication were maintained with the hospital’s staff to keep everything running smoothly.
Specialist equipment - including medical spines which were particularly hard to source - was ordered well in advance to ensure no programme delays.
The refurbishments were delivered in two phases and completed on time in 14 weeks and within budget.
Paul Stansfield, Senior Project Manager for University Hospitals Southampton (UH), Estates & Capital Projects, said: “Everyone at UHS is really grateful to LST and the designers for their dedication and proactive team-working attitude which has delivered a fantastic project in Motility, AMU and Endoscopy.
“The new consulting room and refurbishments will help support both departments in the ongoing delivery of excellent care and help to lift morale and further motivate the team.”
Alex Goddard, Senior Charge Nurse for Endoscopy added: “At every stage there has been excellent communication and teamwork to ensure this build progressed smoothly and effectively.
“The teams were dedicated to seeing this build be the best it can be and working with myself to ensure any challenges were dealt with sensitively and without huge impact to our services.”
