Adapting to change
The Covid-19 pandemic meant our team had to quickly adapt to new ways of working while continuing to ensure projects were delivered on time and in the safest way possible. We moved quickly to implement safe operating procedures and minimise any disruption to construction programmes.
Our efforts enabled us to successfully complete 10 projects in 2020, including crucial healthcare facilities. We also delivered new schemes and large-scale refurbishments for the education, commercial, and research sectors as well as developments for community use.
Strengthening our pipeline
Despite the uncertainty that came hand-in-hand with the Covid-19 pandemic, there were no signs of tenders reducing. In 2020 we tendered over £80,000,000 worth of work. We also secured 15 new contracts across the healthcare, education, and community sectors all set to be delivered within the next 1- 2 years.
Investing in people
Training and employee development remained a key focus at LST throughout 2020. In line with our Safety in Focus initiative, we held 34 health and safety training sessions throughout the year. Four industry qualifications were also gained by members of our team, including a Level 7 NVQ Diploma in construction.
Supporting good causes
LST is committed to supporting local charities and communities and this continued throughout 2020. We helped a total of 10 charities, helping to raise more than £150,000 for good causes.
Our fundraising included our 125 Charity Challenge, which saw members of our team carry out activities involving 125 actions ranging from 125 press ups every weekend through to cycling daily for 125 days. All money raised was donated to Southampton Hospitals Charity, which helps to enhance the care and treatment of patients at University Hospital Southampton – a client we have worked with for many years.
Looking ahead
By the end of 2020, we had increased our turnover by 38 per cent compared to the previous year and welcomed five new people. As we look ahead to 2021, the future remains difficult to predict but we are confident we can build on this success. Our focus will continue to be on meeting and exceeding our clients’ needs and expectations and becoming the contractor of choice.
