As a firm that operates across complex and challenging sites, many of which remain operational throughout our work, we have to go the extra mile to ensure the highest health and safety standards. That’s why we continuously improve our processes and develop initiatives to ensure that above else, we always find the safest way of working.
In 2018, one of our most significant health and safety developments was the launch of ‘Safety in Focus.’Developed in conjunction with our staff, this encapsulates our company-wide approach to managing health and safety and helps us to communicate our key messages and behaviours. Engaging our people in the initiative has helped to foster ownership and a sense of responsibility and the messages are being reinforced to the site teams by our NEBOSH qualified Health and Safety Manager, Tim Woodcock.
In 2019, Safety in Focus will be instrumental in ensuring safety is ingrained in our business and that we can demonstrate our commitment to our clients in a tangible way. Building on this, we are also rolling out a standard site set up, which will deliver consistent branding and a cleaner and tidier appearance at every location at which we work. This will include signage clearly promoting our health and safety messages.
Safe systems, equipment and PPE are important, but just one part of a health and safety strategy. Attitudes and values are critical factors in influencing an individual’s performance on site. The more engaged staff are in the company philosophy, the more likely their behaviour and attitude will reflect the safety systems and procedures in place. And that’s exactly what Safety in Focus is all about.
