This challenging project will see LST deliver the next phase of works for a new extension to the hospital’s north wing, which has been designed by architects Kendall Kingscott.
Our scope of works includes creating the external fabric, fitting out new office space and seminar rooms, providing shells for future fit-out at two levels as well as new clinical space. Our team will also be responsible for refurbishing an area which will provide new staff changing facilities and a GP surgery.
Working in a live hospital environment, which is adjacent to operating theatres and next to major trauma/head injury wards, will require the site to be safely segregated and the construction programme to be stringently managed. Work will have to be stopped quickly should an emergency helicopter (air ambulance) be required to take off or land at the hospital.
Other challenges include the need for all mechanical and electrical systems to remain live throughout the project, some of which are also connected to areas outside the hospital.
The project is due to be completed in April 2019 and follows the completion of the first phase of enabling works, which was also delivered by LST.
