Working in a live 24/7 environment, we will be responsible for the piling works and installing ring beams, concrete floors and a steel frame for the extension, which is located within a courtyard area to the north of the site.
To minimise disruption for the hospital’s staff and patients, internal fire partitions and hoardings will be fitted to segregate the site from existing occupied spaces.
Plant and machinery movements will have to be very safely and carefully managed, including defining transit routes from a secure compound to the construction site. Another major challenge is that contract lifting will be carried out over the live hospital environment, which will require the specialist skills of our expert team and strict control.
This project builds on our long and successful relationship with the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. The organisation provides services to some 1.9 million people living in Southampton and South Hampshire, plus specialist services such as neurosciences, cardiac services and children's intensive care to more than 3.7 million people in Central Southern England and the Channel Islands.
We look forward to working with the team again at University Hospital Southampton to deliver this work ahead of the next phase, which will comprise fit-out, new shells, clinical space and refurbishment work for the new extension.
