LST completed a two-phase project to enhance maternity services at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust. The first phase of the works involved the creation of a new ‘day assessment unit’ for monitoring babies during pregnancy. A section of the existing labour ward at Salisbury District Hospital was refurbished to accommodate eight new consulting rooms and a reception area.

The second phase focused on constructing a new birthing centre for low-risk women. In addition to building two birthing suites, LST was tasked with upgrading facilities, including toilets, a kitchen, and a reception desk.

Additionally, LST developed a new main reception area, serving all the hospital’s maternity departments, including the newly established facilities. This strategic placement between the birthing centre and day assessment unit facilitated safe and convenient access to each facility.

Both phases were executed in a bustling environment, in close proximity to the public and the emergency ambulance parking bay. Furthermore, LST’s construction site was adjacent to a road crucial for daily deliveries of oxygen to the hospital and waste removal.

Regular weekly meetings were held with the nursing staff and the hospital’s capital projects team to discuss and resolve any potential issues promptly. This collaborative approach ensured the project's safe and efficient delivery, minimising the risk of disruption.

This project marks the second instance of LST’s contribution to enhancing facilities at Salisbury Hospital, following a previous refurbishment of an operating theatre in the obstetrics department. This earlier project included the installation of new hygienic flooring, IPS panelling, sanitaryware, medical storage, and upgrades to door protections and finishes.
