This year’s theme was loneliness, an issue closely linked to mental health problems such as depression and anxiety. To support the campaign, our HR Manager Sara Ferguson, devised several initiatives throughout the week to help bring people together and raise awareness.
Staff were encouraged to grow sunflowers, a symbol of hope and happiness, take part in lunchtime walks, and join a charity lunch, which raised money for local mental health charity, Solent Mind. Advice on managing anxiety and mental health was also provided to the team, including signposting to local services, organisations and resources.
Anna Richardson, Office Manager for LST and Mental Health First Aider, said: “There is still a huge stigma associated with mental health, especially in the construction industry. Too often, people suffer in silence and that needs to change.
“Supporting Mental Health Awareness Week was an opportunity for our teams on and off site to strengthen connections with their colleagues, start a conversation about mental health and learn more about the support that is available.”
“It proved to be a successful and insightful week which we will build on in the year ahead with further support and guidance for our team.”
Hosted by the Mental Health Foundation, Mental Health Awareness Week took place from 9 – 15 May 2022 and is now in its 22nd year.
