The three-storey building is one of four used by NHS England and NHS Improvement South East, a regional team ensuring people across the South East have access to high quality health and care services.
LST was appointed by NHS Property Services to remodel and upgrade office accommodation spanning 3,000 sq ft at York House. The team removed internal partitions to create open plan areas, reconfigured existing offices into new meeting space, and replaced the existing toilets with a unisex facility.
The office space was further enhanced with the installation of new floors and ceilings, redecoration throughout and improvements to the kitchen area. To boost energy efficiency, LST also installed solar panels on the roof.
Steve Chapman, Contracts Manager at LST, said: “The building is located on a public car park, so presented many logistical challenges. The site was very constrained which meant there was no surrounding space for construction vehicles, cranes or equipment, including a skip.
“This required careful scheduling and the use of an underground car park for storing materials and equipment, which were brought out only when necessary.
“Despite these challenges and covid restrictions, the project was completed on time and within budget. The upgraded building provides NHS employees with contemporary office accommodation and new facilities that better meet their needs and ways of working.”
