What does your role involve?
I’m responsible for building on our existing health, safety and compliance management systems to ensure they continuously improve. As a firm that operates across complex and challenging sites, many of which remain operational throughout our work, this continuous improvement is really important as it enables us to go the extra mile to ensure the highest health and safety standards are met.
I have developed our Safety in Focus initiative which sets out our company-wide approach to managing health and safety and engages staff, subcontractors, partners and customers with our mission. Setting out our key messages, it underlines the fact that safety is our number one consideration in everything we do.
I also work to improve LST’s safety culture and monitor and report on the performance of our health and safety systems.
What skills and qualities do you need to be a H&S manager?
I’ve received training from the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety (NEBOSH), which provides the specialist skills needed for this role, but it’s also important to gain health and safety knowledge, aptitude and experience.
Can you describe a typical day at LST in 3 words?
Safety all day.
What has been your biggest achievement at LST?
We have just achieved 100 per cent in our health and safety audit, which was conducted by our external health and safety consultant.
Can you tell us something that people may not know about you?
Since Feb 2017, I have clocked up 255 hours of training.
