The team has been appointed to construct a two-storey extension providing eight additional rooms at the independent school in the Berkshire countryside, near Reading. LST will be responsible for both exterior and interior works, including a full fit-out of the new space.
The project will be carried out in a live school environment, requiring careful programming and management.
“The boarding house is located in a challenging area at the top of a steep bank and through an existing garden,” explained Leon Gardner, LST’s Contracts Manager. “To minimise disruption, we will need to create a temporary roadway for site access and will be working closely with the College to keep them regularly informed of our activities.
“The programme will require us to complete the majority of the work before the College’s summer holidays. This will enable us to break through while the pupils have returned to their homes with the project due for completion in early October.”
The contract is the second awarded to LST by Bradfield College. The team was also appointed to refurbish the music hall which was completed in 15 weeks. The upgraded 200 sq m space features a new stage area with bi-folding doors, fixed seating for a 156 audience, and acoustic panelling and rafts.
LST also installed mechanical and electrical services, a new heating system, electric blinds for new aluminium windows and doors as well as storage cupboards for instruments.
Founded in 1850, Bradfield College provides independent education for more than 800 boys and girls from age 13 – 18.
