Scheduled to be complete by summer 2023, the project will transform changing rooms that date back to 1994 when the swimming pool was built.
Extensive renovations will see the male and female changing rooms become a ‘village change’ area to make the best use of the space. This will comprise of 49 changing cubicles in one area ranging in size for individuals as well as families. A further five cubicles next to the learner pool will be refurbished along with the shower area. LST will also upgrade the toilets and accessible changing facility.
As part of the project, LST will deliver a range of measures to improve energy efficiency at the leisure centre. The new changing rooms will benefit from LED lighting, an updated air circulation system and energy efficient showers. Solar panels will also be installed on the roof of the swimming pool building.
Chris Taylor, Contracts Manager for LST said: “We are working to a tight construction programme aimed at opening the new changing facilities in time for the school holidays.
“The swimming pool will remain open while we carry out the upgrade. We want to make sure that the local community can still benefit from the facilities, so although space for changing will be reduced, we will do everything we can to minimise any disruption.”
Matt Williams, General Manager at Freedom Leisure commented: “The project to refurbish the swimming pool changing rooms will transform the customer experience. The environmental works taking place at the same time have also come at the right time, as we battle to overcome huge challenges with our energy cost.”
