LST Projects successfully delivered the refurbishment and extension of the Chemotherapy Ward at Dorset County Hospital. The project involved the internal remodelling of the existing ward and the creation of additional treatment spaces, providing a brighter, more modern, and comfortable environment designed to enhance patient care and improve the overall experience for those undergoing treatment.
A key feature of the scheme was the transformation of the adjacent courtyard into a peaceful, calming space. This outdoor area now offers patients, visitors, and staff a quiet retreat away from the clinical setting, creating moments of comfort and reflection in what can be a challenging time for many.
Working within a live hospital environment required careful planning, close collaboration with the hospital team, and strict management of site logistics to ensure the safety of patients, staff, and the public at all times. Essential hospital services remained fully operational throughout the works, and every effort was made to minimise noise, dust, and disruption.
Despite the complexities of working within an occupied hospital, tight timeframes, and limited access, the project was delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. The refurbished Chemotherapy Ward now stands as a welcoming, patient-centred space that will have a lasting, positive impact on those who use it.

“Overall, the project has gone really well. Some early challenges in the early stages of the project, but I think the design team, along with LST, have worked really well to overcome those, and I think the outcome speaks for itself. Realistically, it is a beautiful space that will make a huge difference to our patients. This project was all about patient experience, and I think it’s more than delivered.”
