LST Projects installed a new substation at Southampton General Hospital. Located outside Victoria House, the substation provides more power for the southern end of the hospital, including the oncology unit. The specialist construction and installation of the substation required high voltage electricity cables to be installed under the road.
The project’s complexity required specialist skills, stringent traffic management and meticulous planning and co-ordination with the hospital’s staff. The work, including the cable installation, was carried out on the hospital’s main access route and where the catering loading bay is located.
Following the construction of the substation, LST agreed set dates and times with each department to turn off the power and switch to the new electricity supply, ensuring there was no disruption to services or negative impact on patients and staff.
The contract is the second infrastructure upgrade LST has worked on at Southampton General Hospital and forms part of a site-wide infrastructure upgrade programme.
