Located in Tadley, Priory Primary School teaches around 170 children across seven classes. The existing hall was built in the early 90s but had a number of inadequacies. Its size fell well short of the recommended space requirement in Government guidelines and this was having a negative impact on assemblies and school performances.
LST was appointed to extend the hall, including an adjacent store. The work included new flooring, constructed of solid maple hardwood to match the existing, and the installation of mechanical services with heating and ventilation provided at high level, including air blown heaters and extractor fans.
The six-month project required carefully planning to ensure the existing hall could remain in use until the latter part of the programme and children and staff stayed safe.
We constructed a temporary, full height wall within the existing hall to protect students and staff and installed a temporary security fence around the whole site. All deliveries were arranged either very early in the morning or during lesson time to avoid the risk of vehicles being present while the children were outside the school building.
Managing noise levels was also crucial to minimise disruption and the construction programme had to be stringently timed so that any demolition work was carried out at weekends.
