A new three-storey sixth form centre was constructed at Bournemouth School, featuring a dining hall and kitchen on the lower ground floor, with classrooms, a seminar room, offices, and toilets above.
Built from red brick and topped with solar panels, the building blends modern educational space with sustainable design.
Careful planning and close collaboration with the school ensured construction could proceed safely within a live campus.
Regular communication and phased scheduling helped minimise disruption to staff and students.
Key challenges included the construction of a basement with complex civil engineering requirements, such as a retaining wall, back propping, and waterproofing. These elements were successfully delivered in partnership with engineers and specialists to ensure long-term durability. The building’s central location also demanded careful logistics, managed through the use of hoardings, a tower crane, and restricted access planning. Completed on time and within budget, the project has provided Bournemouth School with a high-quality, energy-efficient learning environment, tailored to support sixth form students and future growth.
