The £2.6m project involved the delivery of two single-storey buildings and required construction work on each to happen in tandem. The Community Centre facilities offer two multi-use halls and two kitchens, as well as meeting rooms, a foyer, office space, public toilets, bar/café, storage areas and car parking. The Sports Pavilion includes changing areas and showers along with various other ancillary spaces for staff.
One of the challenges was the requirement to achieve BREEAM Excellent which was a planning condition for this project and the construction of both buildings needed to be completed within just 11 months. As the facilities form part of a new housing development also under construction, stringent programming was required to coordinate all building work with the other companies working on the scheme.
As a Considerate Constructor, LST also ensured that any potential disruption for local residents was minimised and concerns addressed.
This is the second project that LST has delivered for Bloor Homes to provide community facilities at large housing schemes. We were also appointed to design and construct the Fair Oak Community Centre for a housing development in Eastleigh.
“LST staff are collaborative, helpful and to want to do a good job. The business has a very good culture.”
