LST was appointed to refurbish and expand the Stanley House Boarding House at Bradfield College. The project involved the construction of a two-storey extension, providing eight additional boarding rooms to meet the growing needs of the school. Both internal and external works were delivered to the high standards expected by Bradfield College, which has been educating pupils in Berkshire since 1850.
The site, situated on a steep bank within an established garden, presented unique logistical challenges. To address these, we constructed a temporary access road, which allowed for the safe and efficient delivery of materials while minimising disruption to the school’s daily operations.
Collaboration with the college was critical throughout. Regular meetings ensured seamless coordination between construction activities and school schedules, enabling timely adjustments to minimise any potential impact.
Key challenges included working around active school periods, navigating restricted site access, and carefully integrating new building services with the existing infrastructure. To mitigate these, construction activities were strategically programmed to take place during quieter times and school holidays wherever possible. The extension’s services were efficiently routed from the existing plant room, with minimal disruption to the operational areas of the building, demonstrating effective planning and sequencing.
The project successfully delivered high-quality, modern boarding facilities, enhancing the residential environment for Bradfield College students. It is a strong example of LST’s ability to manage complex sites and deliver exceptional results in live school settings.
