SGH Oncology – Levels D, E and F

This project created two new wards over two floors with a total of 48 beds. These were constructed on top of the existing oncology ward and ophthalmology department which span two floors and were both built by the LST team.

The scope of works also saw LST build a five-metre high plant room on top of the new wards and extend two stair cores on each side of the building.

The extension required complex enabling works. Prior to LST beginning the steelwork, existing cladding was removed, and 22,000 bricks installed on the lower levels of the building along with new windows and doors. An inverted roof at the top of the building, including 160 tonnes of stone, 22 solar panels and 450sq m of interlocking insulation also had to be removed using a crane.

Adding to the complexity of the project, extensive drainage connection works were delivered in eight phases throughout the programme. Working closely with the oncology team, LST added new connections through the roof slab, taking control of agreed areas while ensuring the installation prioritised the safety and welfare of staff and patients. Temporary utility space and storerooms were set up to support this process, enabling the ward to operate with minimal disruption.

Following construction of the new floors, LST installed screeding and internal partitions prior to delivering a full fit out of the new wards.
